The story of how one of the worst owners in the history of professional sports, Donald Sterling, lost control of the Los Angeles Clippers franchise is no laughing matter. The new mini TV series presented by FX titled “Clipped” aims to show what happened behind the scenes in a stylized manner. However, they must have gotten too lost in the sauce of the style they were going for. In episode 2 of the series, the 2014 first-round matchup between the Clippers and the Golden State Warriors was featured, and Stephen Curry, an ever-prominent figure, looked nothing like himself.

This spurred a ton of laughter on social media as well as befuddlement. The actor portraying Curry tried. He really did. But nothing was ever going to change the fact that he did not resemble the Warriors star whatsoever, especially his 26-year old self back in 2014. Some even went as far as to ask whether the production crew of the show was able to ask Dell Curry to portray his son — especially when one screenshot in particular made the actor look like the Warriors star's father.

“Is that Dell?” a fan asked, in jest of course.

Even Klay Thompson did not escape the hilarious “Clipped” treatment, with fans pointing out that the man playing the Warriors sharpshooter and Stephen Curry's longtime backcourt partner looked like Wally West from CW's The Flash. Personally, the man they got to play Thompson looks a lot like Ben Simmons.

Fans pile on the laughter towards Stephen Curry's portrayal in “Clipped”

Beyond comparing the “Clipped” version of Stephen Curry to the real-life version of Dell Curry, fans had a field day in deciding which other athlete the actor portraying him on the show looked like.

One of the most common names brought up by fans was Dak Prescott's, the star quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. That may not be too bad of a shout, as there is certainly a resemblance between the two especially in head shape.

But other than Dak Prescott, fans compared the TV series version of the Warriors star to Moses Moody, DJ Augustin, Shannon Brown, former UFC champion Daniel Cormier, to name a few. He certainly looks familiar, as evidenced by how fans have compared the “Clipped” actor to a few other people, but he certainly does not look anything like Stephen Curry does, especially back in 2014.

“That’s more Moses moody than Steph curry 😂.” – @iammab

“This DJ Augustine? 😭.” – @Ty_Trippyy

“looks like shannon brown.” – @coolcoastin

“That’s Daniel Cormier lmfaoo.” – @TonisBonilla

Other fans, however, were quick to bookmark tweets containing pictures of this hilarious Stephen Curry depiction. Why, one may ask? It's to make fun of the Warriors star following an inevitable off night. That is NBA Twitter (X) for you, ladies and gentlemen.

“S**t atleast when curry have a bad game I can post this shit 😂😂😂,” a fan wrote. Wrote another, “dawg curry can never have a bad game cause this WILL be used 😭😭.”

The goal of a TV series, or at least any form of media, is to entertain. This may not have been the form of entertainment the producers of “Clipped” had envisioned before filming the show. But these memes mean that their staying power in today's NBA cultural zeitgeist is legitimate.

Throwing back to the Warriors and Clippers' first-round series in 2014

As the show “Clipped” revolves around, the Clippers had to overcome some adversity off the court during their first-round matchup against the Warriors in 2014. Donald Sterling was caught on tape making racist remarks, which led to his eventual ouster from his position as the owner of the Clippers franchise.

But on the court, the Clippers handled their business quite well against the Warriors. Despite coming up against the upstart Warriors who would go on to win the championship the following year, Chris Paul and company held strong and took the series in seven games. The Warriors were still coached by Mark Jackson, so they haven't yet optimized the talent of Stephen Curry, and the Clippers took advantage.

Alas, the Clippers didn't exactly make much of themselves after overcoming the Warriors. They lost in the second round to the Oklahoma City Thunder despite leading by seven in a pivotal Game 5 on the road with 49 seconds remaining in the game, turning the momentum of the series for good.

But the good that came following the Clippers' turmoil-filled 2014 playoff run was that Steve Ballmer came in and bought the franchise. Ballmer has not been shy to splash the cash, diving deep into his pockets to pay huge luxury tax bills just to keep talent on the roster. Ballmer has since been hailed as one of the best owners in the association, although the team is yet to break through with their ever-elusive goal: a championship.
