Last season, the New York Jets had their season turned upside down on the first drive of the season when quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a season-ending injury. The Jets are hoping to keep him healthy all of this year, and with a good core of wide receivers, they could have something good going for them on offense. One of those WRs is Allen Lazard, and New York head coach Robert Saleh has liked what he has seen from him this offseason.
The Jets have the tools to have success on offense, but it will all come down to keeping everyone healthy. That is what plagued the team last season. If Aaron Rodgers can play all season, New York has a chance to have a good year.
Allen Lazard will be one of the top targets for Rodgers, and Robert Saleh is expecting big things from him next season. This offseason has been great for Lazard so far.
“I feel like Allen has come in with a renewed mindset,” Saleh said, according to an article from the team website. “I think he's attacked the heck out of the offseason. He's showed up in tremendous shape. He's like a second coach on the field and in that receiver room. He's been awesome, so I'm grateful that he's here. I think he's going to have a really nice bounce back year.”
Last season was Lazard's first season with the Jets as he came over from the Green Bay Packers with Rodgers. He hauled in 23 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown. If his QB that he spent five years playing with stays healthy, he should be able to have a good season.
Jets players and coaches talk offense
Everyone is eager to see how this Jets offense looks with Aaron Rodgers running the show as we didn't really get to see that last year. Tight end Tyler Conklin knows that they haven't been perfect, but he was happy with how they finished practices.
“As an offense yesterday we didn't love the way we came out and played so it was good to come out on the last day and have a really good practice in a lot of different areas,” Tyler Conklin said. “Obviously finishing the day off in two-minute [period] and move the ball and doing that at a high level is definitely a good way to finish up heading into camp.”
Robert Saleh has already seen a lot of improvement from the offense this offseason in a lot of different areas. If the Jets can translate everything into the regular season, they should be exciting to watch.
“This year there is a lot more communication, a lot more fixing on the fly, players communicating with players. So in that regard from an offensive standpoint, we're playing a lot faster, much more decisive, we're in and out of the huddle where the operation is a lot cleaner,” Saleh said. “The route running is a lot crisper, the O-line blocking schemes are more defined. It's been fun to watch and to go through, so that is much improved.”
The Jets are one of the more intriguing teams heading into next season. There are a lot of question marks, but there is also a lot of potential.
